The site www.ShirtsMyWay.com says it offers seven trillion different shirt designs, with users picking what type of sleeves, collar, buttons and other detailing they want on an interactive model. Co-founders Peter Crawfurd and Michael Yang launched the site in February, saying they wanted to differentiate themselves from online tailors by focusing on the design aspect. The company is based and makes the shirts in China. “We see the shirt as a canvas where you just can put anything that you want on it,” Yang told Reuters by telephone. “You go to a party … and you can stand out with our product because you can customise it exactly how you… Read More

Men’s polo shirts are a vogue style for which the composition is long or short sleeve, and do not button or fasten at the front. Polo shirts are pull over and should be used for occasional or ceremonial apparel, all depending on the adornments. Wear a long sleeve polo shirt with a exquisite blazer for a date or to the more casual setting. Long sleeve pull over polo’s with a short sleeved t-shirt over them are used for any climate, as you can remove the t-shirt if it gets hot, but the tightness of the polo allows for wear in inclimate weather as well. NEW YORK — The Great Recession and Americans’ retreat into thriftiness are teaching retailers a new lesson: How to survive when consumers are focused on “needs” rather than “wants.” For years, shoppers splurged on everything from $5 lattes to $200 jeans, and retailers responded by opening more stores and offering more choices. Now, beset by high unemployment and limited access to credit, shoppers are limiting most of their purchases only to essentials or the best deals. Retailers’ first response to the sudden and sharp pullback in spending last fall was to offer deep discounts and more coupons to keep merchandise moving. But to… Read More

Enlisting the expertise of designers Todd Oldham and Manolo Blahnik, Turner Classic Movies has compiled a list of its favorite fashion films. I agree largely with their choices, but might have added “Gilda” (1946), which I watched over the weekend. Those Jean-Louis gowns that Rita Hayworth wears are ravishing. Or maybe it’s just Hayworth who is ravishing. Here are TCM’s choices: “Pandora’s Box” (1929) – Louise Brooks once said, “A well dressed woman, even though her purse is painfully empty, can conquer the world.” That could have been the motto of Lulu, the role that made her a fashion icon for the ages. Brooks had been… Read More

IF you’re looking for some good news about the economy — and who, pray tell, is not? — here you go. Men have become besotted with accessories. Belts. Bags. Bracelets. (Women’s sales were down 11 percent.) The best sellers seem only too fitting: wallets (to pump up your currency) are up 30 percent; belts (to slim down your debt) are up 38 percent. And there are plenty of other hot spots, from… Read More

NEW DELHI — India is set to host its inaugural men’s fashion week from Friday, which observers say is a long overdue nod to a growing and lucrative market often overshadowed by women’s clothes. The event in the capital New Delhi hopes to capture the interest of India’s millions of young males, many of whom have traded in traditional cotton outfits for shop-bought shirts and trousers. Menswear currently accounts for around 80 percent of brand-name sales in India, according to the Fashion Design Council of India, which is organising the shows in partnership with global apparel giant Van Heusen. Yet the two most prominent showcase… Read More
